Call to Worship                                                                    Elder
One Some boast of their motor cars, and some of their mansions,

but we boast of the name of the Lord of hosts!

All: Should all else collapse in a heap, we shall stand up tall.

One: Do not be impressed by the outward appearance of a person,

for God does not see like we do, but looks into the heart.

All: If anyone travels with Christ, there is a new creation,

old things are obsolete, all things become new.

One: Let us worship this God who looks into the human heart

and through Christ Jesus makes all things new.

Introit                                               “Step Into the Water”

Scripture                                                      Psalm 20 (pg. 391)

Open Hymn                                        “There is a River”

Prayer of Confession

One: God of mercy, hear the prayers of your thirsting people.

All: For every time we have attributed your miracles in our lives

to our own hands alone,  For every time we promised to trust you but turned to our own way when your response did not come soon enough or in the way we expected, For our silent sins, our quiet acts of violence, and our indifference to the suffering round us,

(Time of Silent Confession)

All: Forgive us, Loving One, and quench our thirst with your grace;

Remake us into vessels of tenderness and compassion.

For Christ’s sake we pray.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
One: Because of God’s great love for us, we have peace with God and access to God’s grace all through Jesus Christ who, while we were still sinners, died to free us from the bondage of sin.  Therefore, we may ask of Christ to give us the living water that quenches the dryness of our souls. In this we know we are forgiven.

All: Thanks be to God!

*Gloria Patri #577                                           Congregation

Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. As it was in the beginning, is now, and

ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
